Jeff Darby Bio
Jeff joined the staff of the Fishinger and Kenny Rds. Church of Christ in July of 2001. He was hired as campus minister after working in a similar role previously in Nashville, Tennessee. Jeff is a graduate of Lipscomb University where he earned a BS in Science Education.
After college, Jeff taught science at the middle school level from 1994-1999. During this time he was named “Teacher of the Year”, served as Huddle Coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Chapter and worked with Vanderbilt University and NASA on grant-driven science education initiatives. He also coached football and track winning division championships in both (2 in football, 3 in track). He was twice named “Coach of the Year” by his conference.
While teaching school, Jeff remained closely connected to the teen and college ministries at the Crieve Hall Church of Christ. Volunteering for retreats, working summer camp, teaching Bible classes, planning mission trips and speaking at youth functions led to employment – first part time and then full time.
In this new role, Jeff worked with new members by creating a program to help increase involvement. He served as chairman for the education committee helping to evaluate and implement good teaching strategies. He began a teacher training program in 1998 that still continues to serve that congregation to this day. And he established the YAC (Young Adult and College) Ministry that provided outreach to area university students and young professionals. He also planned and led the first youth overseas mission trips in the history of that congregation (a total of 5 trips to Honduras during this time).
In July of 2001, Jeff and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio to serve the Fishinger and Kenny Rds. Congregation as a campus minister. Upon arrival, Jeff reorganized the ministry into the Buckeyes for Christ, located and organized the purchase of a campus center and began a concerted effort to grow the faith of students at several area schools.
Jeff recently finished an MA in Pastoral Counseling from Amridge University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Along with his work with the Buckeyes for Christ, Jeff also writes High School Curriculum for the Gospel Advocate Company and serves as a counselor for Wellspring Christian Counseling.
Jeff and his wife Sue are avid runners, competing in marathons around the mid-west. Their two children, Bishop and Ashton, are students in the Westerville School system where they excel in music, sports and drama. Jeff and his family love the outdoors – camping, hiking, fishing, shooting and archery.
Presently Jeff is devoting himself to becoming more the man God wants him to be and the person his Great Dane already thinks he is.
